Can You Go to a Horse Show With a Paint?
Is it true that if you have a paint or appaloosa horse and use that horse to compete in a local dressage/show jumping/hunter jumper horse show you will have points taken off.

I have to say, as an appy owner and a former appy sport horse breeder that it is regional. some places will tolerate a horse of a different color, and some wont. I have even had judges make comments like " I would of given better scores if he was solid"
in my area I would not attempt it, there is to much bias.
what I would do is to go to a dressage or hunt jump show and see what is their and what is being judged. talk to a few people.
Now in Jumpers it does not matter. its all a time/penalty score. you might get laughed at going into the ring, but if your horse is good then that will stop.
That is not at all true. Take your horse to any show you want
no… that would be like taking off points for your horse being a chestnut. if your horse is dirty, they might take off a few points if they have stains on the white spots.
No that is not true.
Nope. You can show any color horse you like. It’s just that some judges prefer the more traditional colors over the paints and appys. But honestly, more and more judges are coming into the 21st century and will pin a paint/app right up there with the bays and chestnuts.
No, that is not true. You can take a paint to any horse show except shows for other breeds.
Not true. Judges who penalize for a horse’s color are not allowed to judge.
However, for a hunter or dressage show, the average paint/appaloosa/stock horse type horse will NOT do very well. This has nothing to do with the color, but because of their short, stocky conformation they are not well suited for dressage or hunter/jumper. Some of them can do it well, but the average paint’s body type is just not good for dressage or hunters.
No thats not true!
No, you shouldn’t, and if you do, they are being unfair toward you and your horse. Don’t worry, it’s sometimes the underestimated horses that clean up in the show ring…
uh it doesn’t matter in the jumper ring because it’s based off of time but it’s sorta true that judges don’t usually pin paints well. except i just got back from the hampton classic and there was this girl with a really nice paint horse and she won in the hunters.
No that is not true as a shower of Apps I have shown them in Hunter competitions and won also judges have a preferences for solids but color breeds are getting more attention it is the horse and rider not the color that matters
No. That is so untrue. I have seen many flashy and beautiful Paints in our local dressage shows. No points ever removed! Many Paints win more points!
If you have one, you go. I think Paints are the most beautiful horses in the world.
No! I show my Paint
You can show them anywhere! A good A show is the National Western Stock Show- theres lots of Paints there! Check it out
No. If it’s an open show there are no point deductions.
no that’s not true. sometimes (years ago)judges had a problem judging paint/pintos in dressage due to their color(on their legs). but that was years ago. today loud colored horses are at all different type shows !!!
Nope it’s not true just some people don’t like paints and appy’s but i love them
