Question About a Dressage Test (Prep 1a) Link Included?
Hi,
I am going to be learning this test but don"t quite understand what it means when it says 'between centre line & B' if you read the test from the link (its the first one) it says
Between
K & A
Working canter left lead
B Circle left 20m
Between centre line and B working trot,
so do i canter the full 20m circle then trot or do i canter the circle until i am in line with the centre line??? what do i do, i am quite confused as i am not all that experience when it comes to dressage!
thanks

I read it as on the last quarter of the 20m circle change gait to a working trot. That is, step 4 has you begin your circle at B. Keep in mind it’s a 20m circle in a 20m arena, so use the full arena width coming all the way over to E. The center line runs C-X-A, so you begin the final quarter of the circle on the centerline and can begin step 5 of the pattern anytime during the last quarter-circle. Just ensure you maintain the circle while changing gait.
Your local show standards will determine if preference is to complete the circle at the canter and drop to trop right at B or if in your area at this level of test it is acceptable to transition gait early (but not until you cross the center-line!)
Keep in mind the same movement is repeated to the other direction in steps 11 and 12, make sure you repeat the same gait change at the same point later in the pattern.
You would canter on a 20m circle from B but come back to working trot after you’ve crossed the centre line but before you get to B.
Good luck
